Somatic Experiencing®
Somatic Experiencing (SE™), developed by Dr. Peter Levine, is a body-oriented approach designed to heal trauma and stress-related disorders. SE gently helps release trauma stored in the body and regulates the nervous system. Trauma, at its core, is a dysregulation of the nervous system, which can result from a single traumatic event, multiple events, or prolonged exposure to stress. This gentle approach aims to release that dysregulation and restore balance to the nervous system.
WHAT DOES THIS TREATMENT LOOK LIKE IN THE ROOM?
In our sessions, the focus shifts from talking to observing what is happening in your nervous system. You’ll gain insight into how energy moves throughout your body and learn to recognize when your system is activated—whether moving toward fight/flight or freeze/collapse. Together, we’ll develop strategies to help your nervous system return to a state of regulation and peace while building more capacity in your nervous system.
Somatic Experiencing (SE™) is a gentle, trauma-informed approach. It is a bottom-up method that concentrates on movements and sensations in the body, gradually allowing dysregulation to release and alleviating feelings of trauma. Importantly, this can be achieved without delving into the difficult details of your traumatic experiences.
